Christian Science was presented to me over fifteen years ago, at a time when it seemed that I was losing the use of my eyes. At first I could read only a short time, but as the spiritual light dawned in my consciousness I was able to read longer; and finally, at the end of a few weeks, I was able to read as long as I wished and also to lay aside the glasses which had seemed necessary for several years. Shortly after that I attended a Sunday service, and I was impressed by the words of a hymn sung that day (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 399;

Poems, p. 75), "Thou the Christ, and not the creed;
Thou the Truth in thought and deed."
