I am so profoundly grateful for Christian Science that I...
I am so profoundly grateful for Christian Science that I wish to avail myself of every means of expressing my gratitude that would be helpful to others.
On several occasions in the past twenty-one years I have received some benefits from Christian Science treatment, but I did not take up earnest study until about ten years ago, and then not for physical healing but because another member of the family had some Christian Science literature in his possession. He had never been religious, so I was extremely happy that he would read anything about God, as in my self-righteousness I felt that he was "lost," and I read to encourage him to read.
One week after I began this study my daughter was healed of kidney weakness, without any Christian Science treatment. I had often said that if I could have one wish granted it would not be for wealth or fame, but that this child might be healed, as the trouble had been a great trial and inconvenience. We had tried many kinds of treatments, an operation, and change of climate, without even temporary relief; so if Christian Science had never done anything else for us I would feel fully compensated for my study of it.
My son, eight years old, was at the same time healed of stomach trouble. I had been a medical nurse before my marriage and had learned to follow explicitly the physicians' orders of certain diets; however, the painful attacks continued to appear. We were told by the practitioner, quoting from "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy (p. 530), that "the earth, at God's command, brings forth food for man's use," and that it was good, so could not injure anyone. We freely discarded all our medical supplies and fully relied on the truth, and the truth has never failed to meet a single physical ailment. All difficulties but one have been overcome in a few days; this one, rectum trouble, was not wiped from my consciousness for about two years. Day after day, and night after night, I walked the floor for hours. I was never tempted, however, to turn to materia medica, and finally, immediately following a very severe attack, I was instantly relieved; and the healing has been permanent.
I have also been healed of sick headaches, constipation of years' standing, catarrh and throat trouble, a tendency to take cold easily; and there has been a great improvement in my disposition. I am most grateful for a healing of sorrow which had caused me to spend hours in tears. I have been forced to prove that God is substance; that He supplies an abundance of good. Space would not permit me to tell of the many healings we have had in our family.
I love the church activities and the study of this wonderful divine Science, so clearly explained through our dear Leader's writings. I am endeavoring to follow in the way as the light unfolds in my consciousness, which is the only way we can express our gratitude.
