For years I was active in the work of an orthodox church but failed to receive the peace and joy that should accompany the life of a Christian. After years of experiencing lack and discord in many phases, I turned to Christian Science. This turning was caused by dissatisfaction with my religious training, which failed to answer my questions concerning God, and also by a desire to see if Christian Science could bring more harmony into my life.
My first healing was the overcoming of grief over the loss of my son. I could not explain the healing, but I felt the presence of the Comforter. I was healed soon of self-pity, which I found to be the cause of much discord. The inharmony of my home was gradually overcome through knowing that "man ... is the compound idea of God, including all right ideas" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, p. 475), and also that "man is, not shall be, perfect and immortal" (ibid., p. 428). These truths, with others, bore fruit immediately; but it was several years before the complete demonstration of harmony was made.
The endeavor to overcome the belief of lack also showed quick response, supply gradually increasing until I can now say that God has given me an abundance of good.
