About fifteen years ago Christian Science was presented...
About fifteen years ago Christian Science was presented to me. At that time I was despondent; I did not know what to do, and I was suffering from a nervous breakdown. I did not accept Christian Science at first, being somewhat skeptical of the things which I was told it had done for others; nevertheless, I was interested to know the truth. Arising early one morning a few days later, I saw a copy of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, on a table. I picked it up and started to read. On hearing other members stirring about, I closed the book and put it back in its place and busied myself otherwise. I did not want to be seen reading about Christian Science, because I had ridiculed it so much. This went on for about a week. Then a queer thing occurred: the members of the family had been downstairs for half an hour and I was still reading, not conscious of the fact that they were up. I am glad to say that after this experience I was not ashamed to read Science and Health, but began to do so more earnestly. I also started to read the Lesson-Sermons in the Christian Science Quarterly.
The first Christian Science service I attended was a Wednesday evening testimony meeting. My thoughts about Christian Science were much changed, and I began to improve in health; and a great sense of peace, such as I had never before experienced, came over me. I began to feel like a new man. Oh, with what joy did I look forward to attending these meetings each week, as well as the Sunday service; and I soon had an earnest desire to be a member of this church.
Some years later this prayer was answered. Needless to say, the nervous condition disappeared. I was healed of the smoking habit, and with it went restlessness, temper, constipation, and chronic headaches. I was also healed of nosebleed, which I had experienced since a child. I was protected from being scalded by boiling lye water which had been spilled over my limbs and feet. An attack of pleurisy was overcome in four days through the reading of the textbook.
