Christian Science first came into my experience when I...
Christian Science first came into my experience when I was a little girl. I was deeply impressed by the fact that it had taken the pain from my mother's eyes. Instead of weeping often, as she tried to read, she was reading apparently all that she wished without discomfort. A few years later I saw her healed of nervous prostration and changed from a semi-invalid, as I had known her from childhood, to a well and active woman.
It was not, however, until some years later, when I had returned home from college, that I became sufficiently interested to take up the study of Christian Science in earnest. The occasion was an instantaneous healing of quite a severe pain, and with the healing came a keen desire to know how it had taken place.
Since that time I have experienced many other healings through Christian Science, and have seen members of my family, as well as others, healed, often very quickly, sometimes after a period of time. Severe colds and influenza have yielded to treatment in a very few days, sometimes disappearing almost instantaneously after treatment was started. One of my first healings was of influenza. I awoke one morning with all the symptoms. During the day I became no better through my own efforts, and so early in the evening I asked for help from a member of my family. While the treatment was being given I felt the discordant conditions leave me. It was as though one moment I was very miserable, and the next I was entirely well. I got up from the couch on which I was lying and said, "I am well." About the same time my father had a similar experience. He was apparently suffering with the same trouble, influenza, when he asked for Christian Science treatment and was immediately healed. He said he felt the pain and discomfort leave him as though it were something moving off and away from him.
