A Lovely Day!

Some students of Christian Science once had to make a train journey on a public holiday. The carriage was crowded with people, the day was hot, and there appeared to be much general discomfort. Then a little girl entered the compartment and looking out of the window she began to sing, "Oh, what a lovely day!" As she repeated the words to her own sweet tune it was not long before the atmosphere in the carriage changed, people began to smile, and soon it was obvious that everyone was singing in his heart, "Oh, what a lovely day!"

It is so simple a matter to start the day with that song in our hearts that we may often forget to do so. Today is a "lovely day"; it is not, as someone once said, "just one of those ever recurring things that go to make a year." To the student of Christian Science each day grows lovelier as a fuller knowledge of God is unfolded and his vision takes on a wider and longer view.

On page vii of the Preface to her textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy says, "To those leaning on the sustaining infinite, to-day is big with blessings." The Christian Scientist is blessed in that he is being shown how to lean "on the sustaining infinite," and his gratitude overflows when he stops to count how "big with blessings" his day has been.
