A reference to Christian Science was made in a letter to the Journal-Gazette, August 24, 1931, which leads me to ask space for a brief explanation.

Your correspondent was evidently unfamiliar with the correct reasoning of Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, and condemns by implication what he terms the sophism of Christian Science.

Now if Christian Science employed arguments, especially formal ones, "intended to deceive" (see Webster's definition of "sophism"), it would deserve unqualified condemnation. On the contrary, however, Christian Science reasons logically and scientifically from cause to effect; and its consclusions, when spiritually discerned and understood, heal the sick, comfort those who mourn, and destroy sin and discordant conditions.
