Obedience

Help me to always do Thy will, O Lord;
Cast out of me all selfish thoughts and fears:
Give me the grace to find within Thy word
The light to guide me through this mist of tears.

And may I, when I pray "Thy kingdom come,"
Ask not alone relief from pain and woe;
But at my every step, "Thy will be done,"
Though led in paths I may not wish to go.

For not in pampered sense can I find bliss,
But as my will and thought of self shall cease:
Help me to lose my will in knowing this—
That in obedience is perfect peace.
