Each day I am more grateful to God for the knowledge of the truth of Christian Science, which is a constant joy and help. After years of pondering over various systems of philosophy, religion, and medicine, lost in the mist of speculative illusion, I moved to another city. There in my endeavor to get away from myself, so to speak, I found Christian Science. When I began the study of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, with an earnest endeavor to put into practice the teachings of Christian Science regarding correct thinking and doing, and received in part a spiritual understanding of the definition of God and man, and of their true relationship, as stated by Mrs. Eddy, I was healed of many discordant conditions. Among these were impatience, intolerance, anxiety, fear, the tobacco habit in all its forms, and the drink habit. The tobacco habit was acquired when I was a youth. Later I was engaged in the cultivation of tobacco and in the manufacturing and selling of cigars for nearly thirty years. An opening for another occupation with greater usefulness in service was presented and accepted gratefully.
Continuing my studies of Christian Science, I found the prose works by Mrs. Eddy as a shining light revealing the beauty, grandeur, and practicability of Christian Science.
I am indeed grateful for the authorized literature, and for all the Christian Science activities made possible by our revered Leader through her self-sacrifice and indomitable spirit of righteousness. I am also grateful for the privilege of membership in The Mother Church and a branch church with opportunity for service, and for the joyful revelation of class instruction.—Charles Anderson Hall, Washington, District of Columbia.
