The Effect of Knowing God
In speaking of the blessings of Spirit, Mrs. Eddy writes: "By it the sick are healed, the sorrowing are comforted, and the sinning are reformed. These are the effects of one universal God, the invisible good dwelling in eternal Science" (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 78). It is impossible to reconcile the discordant evidences of the physical senses with a good God. Which, then, shall be refuted, the material discord or the true God?
The Christian world accepts the words of Jesus, but is wont to relegate the healing of disease to a golden age long past. In the treatment of abnormal physical and mental states material methods seem to have usurped the place of spiritual inspiration. But through Mrs. Eddy's clear perception and revelation of God, of His power and grace, Christian Science is calling forth these misnamed miracles from the archives of religious memory, and is bringing forth manifold proofs that the healing power of Spirit is actively with us in the living present. It is offsetting unbelief and lifting the burdens of mankind.
There is no necessity for anyone to be scourged by sin and sickness, by sadness, or poorness of any kind, if he will but grasp and apply the facts of spiritual being. Righteousness, joy, and health are to be had in abundance by one and all, for nothing can pollute or check the wellspring of life and harmony emanating from God and expressed in His likeness. But these gifts must be diligently sought in Spirit and through spirituality, and not in matter, nor through materiality.
