Fourteen years ago I attended my first service in a Christian Science church. I had been a member of three different orthodox churches, but their teachings did not seem to satisfy me. After hearing the Lesson-Sermon read — it was on "Love" that morning — I knew I had found the church for which I had been seeking so many years. I purchased a copy of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy and a Christian Science Quarterly and started to study the Lessons; I also attended church regularly, and enrolled my two sons in the Sunday school. We began to put into practice the truth that we understood, and had immediate results in the overcoming of daily discords, whether in the home or among the children's playmates.

About six months later the elder boy was sent home from school with a note from the teacher saying that she believed he was developing a case of measles; he also brought home a card which had to be filled out by a physician before he could return to school. To be obedient to the state law I called a physician, who pronounced it measles; but in a few days, upon examining the boy's throat, he said he had diphtheria. I knew that this experience was a test for me to decide whether I should continue with the physician or have Christian Science treatment. I called a Christian Science practitioner, and the next morning the boy ate a good breakfast. He improved rapidly, and within a week was up and dressed, entirely healed. We were so glad to know there was no law that upheld contagion, as it had been suggested that the younger boy would also have the disease.

This healing seemed remarkable to me, and I spent much time studying in order to get some understanding of the law of health which had brought it about. After studying for a short time I realized that I had experienced several healings myself: one of a condition which had been causing me much pain for years, and which a physician said could not be overcome without an operation; another of chronic sore throat, which had developed into tonsillitis and quinsy for several winters. A short time after that I was able to lay aside glasses, which I had worn for twelve years. These healings, which came about through the reading of the Bible and Science and Health, and study of the Lesson-Sermons, have all been permanent.
