In your recent issue there appeared an article on faith healing in which incorrect reference was made to Christian Science.

Christian Science is not founded on the fantastic theory, as stated by a clergyman, that the body has no existence and therefore pain cannot exist. It is founded on the spiritual facts that God is good; that He is the only creator; that He created man and all things good; that, therefore, only that which is good is real. And Christian Science teaches that reality can have nothing but good connected with it. It is by the realization of this fact that students of Christian Science are able to eradicate and eliminate pain and disease from the body.

The Bishop of Woolwich is credited with the statement that "Christian Science grows, and has grown, because of neglect in our church." That is all too true. Matthew records Jesus' instructions to his twelve disciples, to whom he gave power against unclean spirits and whom he told to preach, to "heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils." Had the church fulfilled those instructions there are many who would never have severed their connection with it.
