The Call

Oh , little child of long ago,
Awaking in the fitful glow
Of temple lamp, a-burning low,
To hear the voice of God!

Perhaps the Master heard of thee
In Nazareth, at Mary's knee.
Speak, Lord, Thy servant heareth Thee:
No doubt he answered God.

We, too, may silence mortal sense
And voice the heart's obedience
To Thy clear call, Omnipotence,
And love and serve our God.
