It is with deep gratitude that I acknowledge the healings...

It is with deep gratitude that I acknowledge the healings that have come to me since I first began to study Christian Science, more than twenty years ago. I should like especially to tell of the healing of our little girl. In February, 1928, abscesses appeared on her fingers. These were very painful, and the doctors who at that time were treating my father, who was not a Christian Scientist, said an operation would be needed at once or there might be weeks of pain before the abscesses discharged. That very night, under Christian Science treatment, they broke and the fingers began to heal. But this condition was followed by intense pain in the ear. The faithful practitioner held to the truth; and while the two trained nurses in the house for my father, the doctor, and also a surgeon, who visited my father frequently, watched the little girl's case, that second condition was also overcome with patient work in Christian Science; and she was out of doors again, playing, by the first week of May. But there appeared one more difficulty. Her head was twisted to one side and she could not move it.

During the month of May my father and my mother-in-law passed on, and we moved into my father-in-law's house to make a home for him. He was a practicing physician, and of course expressed much alarm and fear over the little girl's condition, suggesting many things for trial, such as massage, and so forth. But we, including the little girl, who was then eight years old, put our full faith in God's power to heal. I am so grateful to the dear practitioner, who never gave up, but worked patiently and steadily to overcome all error. The day that school opened in September, our little girl went. That very day she was able to turn her head for the first time, and while the condition returned as soon as she came back to the house, we knew that there could be perfect freedom for God's child. The practitioner lovingly kept up the work until her head was entirely free. By November she was completely healed, and she had attended school every day from the beginning of the term. Although she had been out of school for over three months in the spring, she had been promoted to the next grade.

This beautiful healing has been permanent, and words cannot fully express our gratitude. Later, the practitioner, who had been so steadfast and true, told us that the doctor, who is the little girl's grandfather, had pronounced the condition incurable and had expected it to grow worse. On the contrary she was healed, and in the spring was given the part of "Joy" in a play at school. She gained twenty pounds in one year. She has perfect freedom and coordination of motion, and is a normal, healthy child. She is an earnest Christian Scientist, and has attended the Christian Science Sunday School since she was two years and a half old. Her father and I are indeed grateful for the wonderful healing and for its great proof of God's power to heal. We have learned that God is everywhere, and that His children cannot be separated from Him.
