Mind's Guidance and Control
Christian Science is insistent in its declaration that there is only one Mind; that this Mind, which is God, is all-inclusive, embracing the universe and man; and that in reality only Mind and Mind's creation are true or real. This great truth of Mind's allness, upon which Christian Science lays such stress, is having a wonderful effect of students of Christian Science as they discern what it implies, namely, that the divine Mind is man's Mind, and that creation, which is the manifestation of this Mind, consists of spiritual ideas. It is enabling them to comprehend the fact of the unreality of all the phenomena of so-called mortal existence, the insuring the ultimate disappearance of these, even as Mrs. Eddy indicates when she writes on page 319 of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," "Mystery, miracle, sin, and death will disappear when it becomes fairly understood that the divine Mind controls man and man has no Mind but God."
But mortals seem to be under the dominance of a mind other than the divine Mind, a mind that is not good—so-called mortal mind; and it is because of their belief in the reality of a mortal or carnal mind that they so often appear to suffer: not a single ill that afflicts mankind but has its supposititious origin in the false belief that there is a mind other than the divine Mind. But since there is only one Mind, God, there cannot possibly be another intelligence the opposite of Himself. Christian Science therefore stands firmly by the truth that the so-called mortal or carnal mind, and all its seeming phenomena, is unreal, utterly unreal.
Christian Science assures us, then, that there is only one Mind, and that, being infinite, Mind controls or governs the entire universe, including man. That this is true is demonstrable. Christ Jesus proved it to be true; for it was by his understanding of divine Love and his reflection of the qualities of divine Mind that he healed disease and sin, overcoming the so-called laws of matter. This understanding is ours to use to-day, even as Jesus, our great Way-shower used it when on earth. Our Leader writes (ibid., p. 171): "Mind's control over the universe, including man, is no longer an open question, but is demonstrable Science. Jesus illustrated the divine Principle and the power of immortal Mind by healing sickness and sin and destroying the foundations of death."
