My attention was first drawn to Christian Science by the wonderful effect of its ministrations upon the life of a dear friend. She had been for many years most unhappy, always ailing, and utterly discontented and wretched, with apparently very little desire for anything but worldly pleasures. Then quite suddenly she became a changed woman, and she explained to me that she had found "such peace in Christian Science." From that time, 1910, she has been an earnest student of Christian Science and has done good healing work.

It was not, however, until 1917 that I consented to read the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, and then I did so only because nothing else held out any hope of solving my numerous problems. During the reading, which took a fortnight and occupied every spare moment, I was healed of a small tumor in the armpit which had been troublesome for years and had not ceased to pain for five months. The pain ceased during the first day's reading, and the whole trouble permanently disappeared.

I then bought the textbook and read it very often, but the light came very slowly; and in 1920 I asked for treatment in order to gain spiritual understanding. This was a wonderful experience and filled my life with joy, in spite of many fiery trials.
