Bearing Witness

The importance to each individual Christian Scientist of bearing audible testimony to his own healing experiences was clearly revealed to our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, when she established the Wednesday evening testimony meetings as a regular service of the Church of Christ, Scientist.

The importance attached to these testimonies by Mrs. Eddy is set forth in the Manual of The Mother Church. In Article VIII, Section 24, under the heading "Testimonials," she writes: "'Glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's' (St. Paul). Testimony in regard to the healing of the sick is highly important. More than a mere rehearsal of blessings, it scales the pinnacle of praise and illustrates the demonstration of Christ, 'who healeth all thy diseases' (Psalm 103:3)."

It would seem that this might be sufficient to awaken the Christian Scientist to the importance of making his individual demonstration in this respect; and yet, how often do the arguments of error keep those with storehouses full of blessings silent in their seats. On page 372 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy writes: "'Whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.' In Christian Science, a denial of Truth is fatal, while a just acknowledgment of Truth and of what it has done for us is an effectual help."
