[Original testimony in German]
In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures"...
In the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, we read on page 254 these beautiful words: "Pilgrim on earth, thy home is heaven; stranger, thou art the guest of God." I have thoroughly convinced myself of the truth of these words, for I was a "pilgrim on earth," wandering around without rest or peace, always seeking the truth, but never finding it. To be more exact, I did not want to find it; for every time someone attempted to put me on the right way, I mentally resisted anything Godlike. So I wandered on, always a stranger to Truth.
But several years ago, when I was near despair on account of serious stomach trouble from which I had suffered for fourteen years, a good friend joined me, namely, Christian Science. Previously I looked upon this new friend with distrust; but the love, kindness, and gentleness with which it surrounded me now drew me to it with a great longing. It was as though an inward voice called to me, Trust and follow it. So I intrusted myself to its care. At first the ascent seemed steep and difficult, but now I knew where my home was, and that my aimless and weary wandering had come to an end. My friendship with Christian Science became more and more intimate, and through its study I have learned that not only am I "the guest of God," but also in reality His image and likeness, and that because I am His image I always reflect Him.
Through this recognition of Truth I have experienced a great many benefits and blessings. I have been healed not only of the stomach trouble mentioned above, but also of a double inguinal rupture from which I had suffered for thirty-two years. I was also delivered from the false appetites of drinking and smoking, so that to-day I can say with great and sincere joy that I have been born anew. I am no longer a harassed, restless, sick pilgrim; I am a peaceful, quiet, and healthy individual.
