Reference was made to the editorial views of The Christian Science Monitor in an interesting editorial entitled "Their own Game," bearing on the tariff changes in Canada and the United States, which appeared in your columns on Monday, July 6. The statement, however, that The Christian Science Monitor is of the Republican persuasion is not based on fact, and therefore conveys an incorrect impression of the editorial policy of this newspaper.
The Christian Science Monitor is not of the Republican, Democratic, Conservative, Liberal, or any other political party. A brief article entitled "Politics" appearing in the Boston Post, November, 1908, is reprinted in one of Mary Baker Eddy's works entitled "The First Church of Christ, Scientist, and Miscellany," on page 276. This article, giving Mrs. Eddy's viewpoint on politics, is applicable to the editorial policy of the newspaper she founded, and is therefore quoted in its entirety. It is as follows:
"Mrs. Mary Baker Eddy has always believed that those who are entitled to vote should do so, and she has also believed that in such matters no one should seek to dictate the actions of others.
