The clear statements of Christian Science in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures,"...

The clear statements of Christian Science in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, that God is the source of man's supply, assured me that there is plenty of employment for one if he will be obedient to God. A Christian Scientist's work is to keep his thought clear; to be industrious, active, and alert; to make every right effort to give satisfaction. When one is searching for employment, the knowledge that man is God's idea, and therefore in his right place, gives one courage and strength. Many times have I had to seek employment, and through the understanding of Christian Science I have nearly always found suitable work before long. On one occasion when about to leave one city to visit another, some hundreds of miles distant, I was strongly advised not to go. "For," said the person who advised me, "there is no work there." These words raised a smile at the time, for I trusted in God, who meets every human need.

After my arrival in the distant city, the chances of getting work seemed remote; but each day I would set out in the knowledge that man as a divine idea has plenty of work to do. One day an acquaintance told me that there was a gang of men working on the railway several miles from town. I went there and applied to the foreman for work, and was told to start in the morning. The following morning I went to work, and I worked for several months, until I left the city. The same foreman became interested in Christian Science and borrowed Science and Health from me.

Some months afterwards, in my home city, I was again seeking work, and during the course of a conversation with a Christian Science practitioner I said, "I shall have to go into the country to get work." The practitioner replied, "You need not; there is work for you here." These words helped me considerably; for I saw that God is everywhere, and therefore it was not necessary to go into the country to get work. Two days afterwards a nurseryman whom I has asked for employment sent me to clean up a garden; and in a short time I had all the gardening work and odd jobs I could do. From that time to this I have never been troubled with unemployment. Unemployment is without God's sanction; and a careful study of the Bible, together with Mrs. Eddy's writings, will reveal the truth about God and man and banish the specter of unemployment.—Peter Anderberg, Murwillumbah, New South Wales, Australia.
