Loyalty to Truth

Christian Science teaches that since God is infinite Spirit or Mind, there is only one real presence or power, that of Spirit or Mind. From this it follows that what is called matter is an erroneous concept, an illusion of material sense; or, in other words, that matter is unreal. And matter being unreal, all so-called material phenomena must likewise be unreal, including every phase of sin and disease. Christian Science not only teaches these truths, but it also lays down rules whereby the student can prove them for himself, thus gaining dominion over false material sense and rising above the sick and sinful experiences to which mortals in belief are subject.

To be successful in the demonstration of Christian Science the student must be loyal to its teaching. As Mrs. Eddy writes on page 462 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," "Whoever would demonstrate the healing of Christian Science must abide strictly by its rules, heed every statement, and advance from the rudiments laid down." Her words are entirely reasonable. She insists on the method which every student of any of the so-called natural sciences employs; for, indeed, he is aware that if he does not adhere strictly to the rules of these sciences, he will not be able to prove the facts they set forth. He studies them diligently, acquires proficiency in the use of their laws or rules, and then loyally puts them into practice in order to get correct results.

We have a wonderful example of loyalty to Truth in Christ Jesus. And what was the result of his loyalty? Marvelous healings of sin and disease, as well as mastery over the phenomena of nature, so called. The Master's was an extraordinarily illuminated spiritual consciousness, a consciousness so full of the light of Truth and Love that the illusions of material sense could find in it no abiding place. Good to him was supreme, and evil a lie; and through his loyalty to Spirit and good he vanquished sin, annulling its effects, and gained the victory over matter. In "Retrospection and Introspection" by Mrs. Eddy (p. 26) it is written, "Our great Way-shower, steadfast to the end in his obedience to God's laws, demonstrated for all time and peoples the supremacy of good over evil, and the superiority of Spirit over matter."
