About eleven years ago I was told of Christian Science,...

About eleven years ago I was told of Christian Science, a religion of which I had never even heard before. I did not think I was in need of its help, but I decided to attend a service out of curiosity. I shall never forget my first visit to that Sunday evening service; the atmosphere seemed so full of love and reverence that I felt face to face with God. Curiosity quickly turned into a desire to know more of this truth and to gain a better understanding of God and the Bible. I had always been a student of the Bible and believed in it, but through the study of the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy, along with the Bible, I am beginning to understand its teachings, to prove practicable many of its beautiful promises, and to realize what these passages mean: "Be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only," and, "By their fruits ye shall know them."

I had not been a student long when a problem presented itself in our home. A relative living with us contracted a cold. We did not think much about this till one evening we found her delirious. Not having sufficient knowledge of Christian Science, we thought it wise to call in a doctor. During the night the delirium passed away, and I asked her if she would like Christian Science help. She consented, and a letter was posted asking a practitioner for absent treatment. The next morning the doctor came. After seeing her his verdict was that there was no hope of recovery; that one of the lungs had gone and, as the patient was over seventy years of age, it was only a question of time when she would pass on; in fact, he said she could live only a few days. I was young in Christian Science, but two passages from the textbook which I had read came to me: "God is our Life," and, "Become conscious for a single moment that Life and intelligence are purely spiritual,—neither in nor of matter,—and the body will then utter no complaints" (pp. 388, 14). These passages so filled my consciousness that I lost all sense of fear, even though the patient seemed so ill. I just held on to the truth that God was her Life. In two weeks she was sitting up in her bedroom, healed, to the great astonishment of the doctor. "Wonderful," was all he could say. Error still tried to get in through the belief that she would need great care, as she might be attacked every year with this trouble and a painful cough, but I held on to the truth and had not the least fear. This healing took place eleven years ago, and since that time she has had perfect health, never needing either a doctor or mateiral remedies, but simply relying on the truth.

We have had numerous other healings in our home, not only physical, but mental also. I can never express in words my gratitude that I heard of Christian Science, for through the study of it I know that "in him [God] we live, and move, and have our being."—(Mrs.) Ada Wilhelmina Yates, Whitefield, Lancashire, England.
