Watching and Praying

To live, dear Lord, as thou would'st have me live;
To pray each day, "Thy kingdom come,"—to give
My every thought to help, to heal, to bless,—
Oh, may I learn this prayer of selflessness!

To come unspoiled through blame or praise of man;
To lend a helping hand where'er I can;
To speak a kindly word in time of need,
And follow it with some unselfish deed;

To strive to free my thought from earthly taint;
To climb the rugged path without complaint,
And sing instead God's praises all the way—
So may I watch; so watching shall I pray!
