In April, 1919, I was confronted with a problem which caused me to lose all interest in life, for I saw nothing to live for in a world of sorrow and misery, as it seemed to me at that time. I was an active member of a so-called orthodox church, but the church could not help me with the problem. I believed that I had to die to gain heaven, as I had been taught.
At this time Christian Science was presented to me. Although I had no faith in it, I thought it could do no harm to try it, so I made an appointment with a practitioner and went to see her. I shall never forget how she encouraged me. She told me to change my thinking, for that would change conditions. She pointed out to me so much good to live for. After I left her office there was a great load lifted, and I seemed to walk on air. I went home and began to study "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. I went to sleep peacefully and slept all night, something I had not been able to do for weeks. Since that time I have been a student of Christian Science, and it has never failed me.
Some years ago I had a mental breakdown. While passing through this experience I had to earn my living. Through the help of a practitioner I was able to work and to prove that "as thy days, so shall thy strength be." This experience was the hardest I had ever passed through, but many lesons were learned. I found that I got relief only when I overcome a false sense of self. Many phases of error had to be destroyed in my own thought. After some time I was finally freed from this condition, which did not leave me where it found me.
