"Righteous rebellion"
Under the marginal heading "Righteous rebellion," on page 391 of the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures," Mrs. Eddy states the attitude of the Christian Scientist towards disease. She writes, "Instead of blind and calm submission to the incipient or advanced stages of disease, rise in rebellion against them," adding a few lines farther on: "It is error to suffer for aught but your own sins. Christ, or Truth, will destroy all other supposed suffering, and real suffering for your own sins will cease in proportion as the sin ceases." These words are entirely in keeping with the whole of the teaching of the Science which Mrs. Eddy discovered, the Science which reveals the truths of real being, God and His spiritual creation.
Why, then, is it right to rebel against disease at whatsoever stage it may appear to be manifested, instead of submitting to it? The reason is that disease is not of God, is not caused by God, is not supported by the law of God; and since it is not of God, it is unreal. There can be no deviation from this line of reasoning, when God is known and acknowledged to be the one perfect Mind or Spirit and His creation as the perfect reflection of Himself. Inharmony of whatever name or nature is a myth, an erroneous and temporary belief of mortal consciousness.
That disease is unreal is not generally understood by mankind, who accept as true what the physical senses report to them. But do not these senses deal with what is called matter, that which Christian Science declares to be unreal, since God, Spirit, is infinite? In reality, since God is infinite Spirit there is no matter and, consequently, no diseased material condition. Spirit and Spirit's creation of ideas alone are real; and because Spirit is perfect, Spirit's creation is also perfect. These spiritual truths cannot be annulled; they will remain the same throughout eternity.
