Our son, when three years of age, was stricken with a very strange malady, accompanied by high temperature, loss of appetite, and constipation; he also lost the use of his limbs. When I noticed this latter condition, I asked for the help of a Christian Science practitioner. I did not speak of the condition of the limbs to the child's father, but when he discovered it for himself he was desirous of obtaining the diagnosis of a physician. When he was informed by the office attendant, however, that the physician was ill and unable to attend to his patients, he said no more about it.

The child would insist upon getting up and would also ask to be fully dressed. Then he would want to get out of bed and walk; but his little legs were too weak to support the weight of his body, so I would hold him up as one holds a baby that is beginning to walk.

One day when I allowed discouragement to enter my consciousness, I expressed the thought of self-condemnation to the practitioner, who lovingly rebuked me, warning me against that error. This brought clearly to my thought the answer Christ Jesus gave to his disciples when they asked him, "Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?" and he answered, "Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him." The condition lasted for seven days. Step by step each erroneous symptom was overcome, and at last the healing was complete.
