A reprint of an article appearing in your issue dated July 23, 1931, stated that those churches which "have something in the way of mysticism to offer ... report increased attendance and contributions in the last year or so." The Christian Science church was named as being in that classification.

The necessity for correcting this erroneous statement is based on the fact that Christian Science has nothing whatever to offer in the way of mysticism. Christian Science, through its clear explanation of the teachings and works of Christ Jesus, removes mysticism from the thought of the conscientious student seeking to understand the God who is "our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble."

Dr. Lyman P. Powell, Rector of St. Margaret's Episcopal Church in New York City, in his book entitled "Mary Baker Eddy: A Life Size Portrait," on page 44 explains the underlying reason for the unselfish support that loyal students of Christian Science give to the various activities of their church in these words: "Without pulpit 'begging,' without resort to church suppers, without any kind of money-raising by indirection, Christian Science has solved the problem of church support. Its members give to their church for but one reason, gratitude.... Loyal Scientists give generously to their church because of an almost universal belief that their church has bestowed upon them something beyond money, beyond price."
