Your allegation editorially in the Democrat of June 16,...

Your allegation editorially in the Democrat of June 16, that The Christian Science Monitor distorts prohibition news, is quite without point, especially in view of a recent series of articles in that paper on the subject. In "Is Prohibition Worth Keeping?" both sides of the question were quite fully presented and discussed.

The Christian Science Monitor in its discussion of Federal prohibition under the Eighteenth Amendment has openly espoused the cause of prohibition, but it has been careful to present the facts fairly. That it has been successful in this endeavor is shown by the large number of appreciative comments received from readers who have stressed its just presentation of the arguments on both sides of this subject.

I quote from the remarks of the Rev. S. Grant Perkins, pastor of Collinwood Methodist Church, Cleveland, Ohio, as reported in the Cleveland Plain Dealer of June 16. After demanding proof of certain published charges against the enforcement of prohibition in Ohio, the Reverend Mr. Perkins says: "Over against this let us place the series of articles now running in The Christian Science Monitor on 'Is Prohibition Worth Keeping?' Here are gathered the calm, cold facts from reputable men and women, from welfare organizations, from police officials all over the nation. Comparison is made on a broad basis of human welfare, before and since prohibition. I would commend the careful reading of these articles if anyone wants to find out the facts."
