"Teach us to pray"

"Teach us to pray," they bade the Lord; and then
He gave the prayer that meets all needs of men,
The prayer of faith, which lifts the heart above,
From mortal sense to holy realms of Love.

Teach us, O God, until the way is plain,
And we the spirit of his prayer shall gain,
Which gives to suffering hearts the healing balm,
To troubled thought brings joy and heavenly calm.

"Teach us to pray" with understanding clear,
That we may trust in Thee and conquer fear,
And know that all are safe within Thy fold:
Through prayer we see Thee and Thy heaven behold.
