[Written for the Sentinel]

The Way to Heaven

There is a road that men may tread
Where one has walked who knew the way,
The one who taught us how to pray:
Give us this day our daily bread.

There is one God whom men, forsooth,
Have known, and thus the road have found
Where fear is stilled and joys abound—
And God is Love; the road, the truth.

If one would walk this narrow path
Wherein all fear is changed to peace,
Each day from all distrust to cease,
Each day to give what love he hath,

All soon would find along the way
A thousand joys they missed before;
And standing at the open door
A glimpse of heaven every day.
