One Big Union Bulletin
The article under the heading "Christian Science Is Built on Deception," which appeared in a recent issue of your paper, is so manifestly unjust and misleading that space for correction is respectfully requested.
Christian Science is founded on the Bible; it is not taken from "some ancient philosophy." It is Christian because it conforms to the words and works of Christ Jesus, and emphasizes the necessity of obeying his commands and emulating his example, not in some ways only, but in all ways. It is Science because it is exact knowledge of spiritual Truth.
It is true that Christian Science denies the reality of sin, sickness, and death, but this does not furnish any reason for the assertion that "the belief breeds a dishonest and hypocritical outlook." According to the spiritual record of creation in the first chapter of Genesis, "God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good." Therefore, sin, sickness, and death, not being good, are no part of God's creation, and must rightly be classed as unreal. Christian Science does not deny that the self-imposed beliefs of mor tals, manifested in various discordant conditions, may seem very real in human experience, but it does teach how these false beliefs may be corrected and healed.
