Leadership

[Original article in German]

IN Exodus we read, "And when the people saw that Moses delayed to come down out of the mount, the people gathered themselves together unto Aaron, and said unto him, Up, make us gods, which shall go before us."

The Israelites had repeatedly felt divine guidance, but owing to a personal sense of leadership they abandoned their reliance on divine omnipotence, and turned to that which merely satisfied appearances. Aaron's disregard of divine omnipotence was expressed by his readiness to do the will of the people. He made concessions to their preferences, gave them a golden calf, and thus they fell to their false concept.

Every loyal member of The Mother Church and of a branch church is grateful to our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, for what she has done in drawing up the By-Laws in the Church Manual, so that ignorance or doubt can immediately be removed, if we obey her injunction in "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" (p. 495), "Study thoroughly the letter and imbibe the spirit."
