Wings of Thought

"Spirit is symbolized by strength, presence, and power, and also by holy thoughts, winged with Love."—Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, page 512.

Thanks , thanks for the wings of thought!
With them may I spurn the sod;
I may mount to the height of eternal day—
I may rise to the realm of God:
Though my heel to the hard earth cling,
And though mists may cover my eyes,
The pinions of Love will lift me above
The creature that suffers and dies.

By thought may I conquer space—
By thought may I sorrow flee:
I may pass by the path of uplifted thought
That the Master has blazed for me.
Yea, by thought may I close the crypt
In the low-ceiled cell of the clod,
And mount to the height, the measure, the might,
Of man in the image of God.

Then up on the wings of thought!
Leave flesh and its fears behind!
Oh, it's up on the pinions of purified thought
To the realm of eternal Mind!
Who would hide his head in the dust
When the high stars beckon to light?
The Love which inspires with Godlike desires
Gives wings to pure thought in its flight.
