From the Field

[Annual report of Committee on Christian Science Work in the Army and Navy at Los Angeles, California]

"Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me."

The committee wishes to extend to the participating Christian Science churches and societies of southern California, a generous "Thank you" on behalf of the scores of soldier and sailor boys who have been benefited by their loving cooperation. A complete library of our Leader's works is installed on each of the naval vessels, affording an opportunity to the enlisted men (numbering about twenty thousand in round figures) of becoming acquainted with the teachings of Christian Science; and our worker informs us that the library is very extensively used and that not one book has been lost. Three complete libraries have also been installed at the United States Veterans' Hospital at San Fernando, one at Fort McArthur, San Pedro, and one in the tuberculosis annex at Sawtelle.

An average of about one service each month has been held on the naval vessels. These services are held at the request of the men and chaplains on board and are uniformly very well attended. Services are also held once each month at the United States Veterans' Hospital. There microphones and ear phones have now been installed, so that out of three hundred and fifty patients, over ninety per cent are eagerly awaiting and "listening in" to our service.
