[Written for the Sentinel]

The Gift

Dear , I would comeBringing you the heart's most precious thing,That only God could give to me for you.It would be delicate and whiteLike lily-of-the-valley bells,Gentle, as touch of twilight,And luminous as stars.Knowest thou what this gift's name would be?Purity of heart!A thing so gently luminous,So simple, crystal clear,Yet so maintained by law,That all the place about would shine with love!
