In your issue of November 21 is a quotation from a book entitled "The Evil Religion Does," which ridicules the readings in Christian Science church services, and also the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy.

The author of the book in question evidently belongs to that class of present-day writers who seem to find satisfaction in ridiculing religion, in inoculating disrespect for law and government, and in undermining the admiration and respect which people have for the great and noble characters of the world; in fact, they take a cynical attitude towards any constructive effort that is being made to help humanity, to make human life cleaner, happier, and more enjoyable.

Christian Scientists are undisturbed by these flippant, satirical remarks concerning their church services, but it is due the readers of the Champion to say that many years ago Mrs. Eddy ordained the Bible and the Christian Science textbook as the only preachers in our churches, and her reason for doing so is fully set forth in the following paragraph from her Explanatory Note in the Christian Science Quarterly, published by The Christian Science Publishing Society:
