[Written for the Sentinel]

A Prayer

O FATHER , give me words to voice
The song that lingers in my heart.
Enable me so to rejoice
That I may humbly do my part
In glorifying Thy sweet name,
And prove that Thou art God alone;
That earthly honor, earthly fame,
Are by Thy precious truth outshone.

O Spirit, mercifully loose
My tongue, and give me words so clear
That I with grace may sing and choose
The notes that banish doubt and fear;
That I may see that glorious light,
Resplendent brightness from above,
That quickly puts all clouds to flight—
That ever radiant beacon, Love.
