Heaven and Earth

By his mighty works Christ Jesus revealed the kingdom of heaven on earth, and his ministry exemplified his prayer, "Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven."

The teachings of Christian Science throw light on the question of earth, heaven, and hell, revealing the latter as two opposite mental conditions, not localities. On pages 585 and 587 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" Mrs. Eddy refers in part to earth thus, "To spiritual sense, it is a compound idea," and to heaven as "harmony; the reign of Spirit; government by divine Principle; spirituality; bliss; the atmosphere of Soul." With the acknowledgment that earth is spiritual, not material, the veil is lifted which has seemed to make of earth and heaven two separate spheres.

The understanding of earth as a sphere of spiritual ideas, free from materiality, is a means of general protection, for by this we learn that earth is not, in reality, a mere planet, subject to plagues, pests, unkind elements, or self-destructive upheavals. Christian Science teaches mortals how to lift their concept of earth and behold it as here and now under the government of divine Principle. This general protection is demonstrated only in proportion as evil is eliminated from human consciousness and each one's thoughts are brought under the control of divine Principle, to which accidents, inharmonies, are unknown. Did not the Way-shower rebuke and still the presumptuous storm, at the same time chiding his disciples for their fear, or lack of faith? Fear is faithlessness toward God's omnipotence.
