Among the Churches

Current Notes

Monroe, Louisiana (First Church).—The laying of a corner stone of a house of worship is perhaps one of the most impressive rites mortals are privileged to enjoy. The members of First Church of Christ, Scientist, which is now nearing completion, have held their simple but impressive services upon the laying of the corner stone. The handsome structure of buff-colored brick, with Bedford stone trimming and green tile roof of colonial design, is built on a one hundred and fifty by one hundred and fifty foot lot. The edifice has a seating capacity of four hundred in the main auditorium. The basement is spacious and complete, containing Sunday school rooms and additional rooms for church work. The grounds will be terraced and landscaped with evergreen shrubs.—News-Star.

Hamilton, Ontario, Canada (First Church).—The Christian Science church some time ago outgrew its former church on Main Street and the members decided to move farther out east on Main Street to the corner of Gladstone Avenue. This week actual work was commenced on the new building. The building will be of a light gray pressed brick with cut stone trimmings, and simple and dignified design particularly well suited to the site which has a frontage of one hundred and twenty feet on Main Street and a depth of one hundred and twenty-five feet on Gladstone Avenue. The auditorium will have a bowled floor and, with the gallery, will provide seating accommodation for six hundred.
