After many years of searching for health and happiness, and for a God I could understand, Christian Science was brought to my attention. It was after quite a bit of persuasion on the part of a dear friend, who was a member of an orthodox church, that I decided to investigate this teaching. The very best of medical science had failed me, and material means had been exhausted. Hopeless and weary, I made my way to a Christian Science Reading Room, where I was lovingly directed to a practitioner. Of the wonderful patience and sweet assurance expressed by her, day and night, I could never say enough.

I did not seem to understand, at first, what the teachings of Christian Science were all about, but at the Wednesday evening testimony meetings I gained the assurance that I too might be healed. It was not an easy matter to let go of the old beliefs; but I studied as faithfully as I could, because I knew that I had nothing to which to turn back. One by one the healings came, some quickly, others requiring more effort on my part. Great rejoicing always followed as the truth was unfolded to me. I was healed of serious thyroid trouble for which one doctor wanted to operate immediately, and for which I had taken a great deal of medicine; of complications from a previous operation; and of a very bad case of insomnia, from which I had suffered ever since I could remember. I was also relieved of much discomfort, the cause of which the doctors seemed unable to trace, and for which they could find no relief.

While I was still filled with uncertainty, and struggling to reach the point where I could dispense with medicine and rely wholly upon Christian Science, a healing took place which stands out clearly to me. I had suffered from a hemorrhage for about a month, and had been in bed for a week. The doctor advised my going to a hospital, which would have meant another operation. I read "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by our beloved Leader, Mary Baker Eddy, again and again. Suddenly I realized that Christian Science could and would heal me. I arose, dressed, discarded my bottles of medicine, and did an unusual amount of work, which had accumulated during my illness. Later, during the afternoon, I made a call. The healing was perfect: there were no ill effects of any kind.
