It is over twenty years since I received my first healing in Christian Science. I had suffered at intervals for more than a year from a very painful and inflamed condition of the eyes, each attack lasting two or three weeks, leaving the eyes very weak. The attacks became so frequent that I was not able to use my eyes at all, not even to read a letter.
At this time my home physician, considering the trouble very serious, advised me to consult an eye specialist. This I did. The specialist recommended hot applications to the eyes during the attacks. Later, massage of the body was recommended; and I was away from home for four months having this treatment. I laughingly remarked at the time, "If this does not cure me, I will try Christian Science." After my return home I suffered another severe attack with the eyes. During these periods I could not move the eyelids without pain, and most of the time I spent lying down with eyes closed.
A gentleman visiting my home town and learning of my trouble told my husband of an eminent German eye specialist. Not yet ready to trust God, as soon as I was able to travel I went to see this specialist. He pronounced it a catarrhal condition of the system, fitted my eyes with glasses, and said I would need to wear them permanently. He also gave me a number of prescriptions to take, as well as eye drops to use. I returned home and followed directions for a few months, but then I experienced another severe attack which made me very discouraged.
