I thank God for His priceless gift, Christian Science,...
I thank God for His priceless gift, Christian Science, revealed to this age through that spiritually-minded woman, Mary Baker Eddy. For many years I reverenced and worshiped my concept of God as taught by a so-called orthodox church, taking its precepts as facts not to be questioned, although in my youth I doubted whether God was the author or cause of floods, earthquakes, cyclones, accidents, diseases, and other discordant conditions.
After exhausting my kindly minister's sincere prayers for relief, I turned from religion and sought and followed the path which seemed to furnish ease and pleasure. This included the drink habit, which proved to be like pouring fuel on a flame in the vain endeavor to quench it. After going through several experiences of delirium tremens, I found myself facing "the last enemy," and given up by my friends as beyond redemption. At this point I turned to God through Christian Science, although with little faith, and was completely healed of the drink and tobacco habits, with all their attendant evils.
I quickly regained my health, friends, and financial standing in the community; and above all else I found a lovable, available, ever present God, the author of good only. I learned, too, that in the degree that one accepts and obeys God's law as explained in Christian Science, one eliminates fear, sorrow, limitation, and disease from one's experience. I have been healed of chronic headaches, gallstone colic, ptomaine poisoning, warts on the hand a growth on the foot, and misplaced vertebræ. A broken bone in the wrist, and crushed fingers have been restored—all by reliance on God as the only physician. To no other source have I looked for aid for over seventeen years.
