The Lectures

Introductions to Lectures

Lansing, Michigan (First Church).

Lecturer: James G. Rowell; introduced by Professor John C. DeCamp, who said:—

A Christian Science lecture is an event eagerly looked forward to. It is a source of information, definite, accurate, authoritative, about a movement in which we are all interested. We are living these days at a fast pace. Automobiles, radios, aeroplanes, refinements in electric lighting are revolutionizing living conditions. Not all of the changes have brought happiness. The Bible says, "A man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth." Human thought, bewildered by a multiplicity of "things," is evidencing doubt: doubt of the purpose of human existence, of life and one's ability to maintain one's self in it; doubt of God and His intention toward man; doubt even of His ability to control the universe He has created. The world is reaching out for assurance that God is "a very present help in trouble."
