It is over ten years since I took up the study of Christian Science, and I feel I must express my gratitude for the happiness and peace that have been brought into my life through its teachings.
A chance remark about God which I made to an acquaintance, and her intelligent answer, led me to ask her from what denomination she had gained her knowledge. She said that she was a student of Christian Science, and that her interest in it had been aroused through seeing the regeneration in character of a man who had taken up the study of this religion. After this short conversation I at once earnestly took up the study of Christian Science, and read most diligently all the authorized periodicals, also the textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. For two years I lived on the mountain top; then came the testing time.
My daily work had always been a trouble to me, as I lived under the constant fear that I should be given work to do which I could not perform. I had always turned to God for help each day, as I had been taught by my mother always to turn to Him for help and never to lean on persons. After gaining a little understanding of what Christian Science teaches with regard to God and man's relationship to Him, I turned to Him with each problem in a more intelligent manner, and the fear of incompetency was to a certain extent lifted. After studying for about two years I had a breakdown in health. This was very soon overcome with the help of a Christian Science practitioner; and then I decided not to take up office work again. I took up other employment, and after about six months of unhappiness saw very clearly that running away from a problem does not solve it; that I must return to office life and there work out the problem.
