In an interesting letter which was printed in your issue of May 29, there appeared a statement about Christian Science which, although probably given with a honest intent, evidenced a lack of comprehension of the subject.

Instead of getting away from the real tenets of the Bible as your correspondent infers, Christian Science is based wholly on the Scriptures, and has Scriptural authority for every statement it sets forth. This fact is clearly established in the Christian Science textbook, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy. In her dissertation on the events connected with her discovery of Christian Science, she states (p. 110): "In following these leadings of scientific revelation, the Bible was my only textbook. The Scriptures were illumined; reason and revelation were reconciled, and afterwards the truth of Christian Science was demonstrated."

Eminent Bible scholars are recognizing the fact that the Bible is a textbook of spiritual law. Christian Science elucidates this law and imparts an understanding of the modus of Jesus' demonstrations of divine power. This understanding is made manifest in thousands of regenerated lives throughout the world, as well as through the healing of all manner of sickness. Of particular importance is the fact that Christian Science is turning continually increasing numbers to the daily study of the Bible, to the recognition of its teachings as the inspired Word of God.
