When Mrs. Eddy gave the title "Christian Science" to the system of religious teaching promulgated by her, it was the occasion for some questioning with regard to the coupling of two words usually regarded as so diverse in their application. The nature of this teaching, however, and its results, show that the name could not have been better chosen.

The term "science" refers to provable or demonstrable facts. It may safely be taken that the greatest and most incontrovertible facts are those relating to God and His creation. What was true about God and man in what the Scriptures term, for want of a better word, "the beginning," that is, from everlasting, must be equally true to-day.

These great spiritual truths, them, must be susceptible of demonstration in any age where they are understood. The mission of the Science of Christianity is to raise human thought from the debris of false beliefs and superstitions to a religion whose truth may be demonstrated in a practical manner in every problem. It is upon the practical demonstration of these spiritual facts that the widespread religious denomination known as the Church of Christ, Scientist, has grown within the last half century.
