Die Volkstem

My attention has been drawn to an article in the editorial columns of your paper of the 12th inst., in which, after criticizing certain resolutions recently passed by the Synod of the Dutch Reformed Church at the Cape, you inquire whether the resolutions in question are not closely akin to Christian Science. Your article further claims to set out the viewpoint of Christian Science towards disease and its healing, and you state that the "so-called" treatment of the Christian Scientist consists of prayer and suggestion.

My object in replying is not to pass any comment on the articles adopted by the Cape Synod. I would only say that the Christian Science church is always pleased to hear of the healing of sickness being taken up by other churches.

Christian Science reveals sickness and disease as not God-made, and therefore as unreal. Christ Jesus said, "Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." Through his spiritual understanding of the verities of creation, the Founder of Christianity was able instantaneously to heal all manner of bodily suffering. Christian Science is unfolding the same truth to the world to-day, and healing is again being accomplished.
