One spring while in quest of a camp in the Adirondack...

One spring while in quest of a camp in the Adirondack Mountains, my family and I encountered a surprisingly late and heavy snowstorm that piled up drifts two to three feet deep. We left home on a balmy, springlike morning, and reached our destination, two hundred and ninety miles distant, to find the members of the club looking over the golf course and getting out their clubs and clothes so as to be ready for a game in the morning. During the night the scene changed, and we awakened to find snow falling so fast that it was like a gray curtain at the windows. This continued until four o'clock that afternoon, when a strong wind came up to add to our difficulties. When we started home the following morning some of the roads had been opened up, but on others it was very hard driving with a heavy-type sedan. When we had to be shoveled out, however, help was always at hand. We took three hours covering two miles of the worst of the road, but we reached home before midnight with only the chains worn out—not a single mishap. Our understanding of God, which had come to us through Christian Science, had protected us and brought us safely home. During the trip the fifth and sixth verses of the third chapter of Proverbs, "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths," and the ninety-first psalm were a very great comfort.

While I was horseback riding the same spring with my daughter, a baseball struck me with considerable force. I was startled, as I did not see it coming, but there was no sign of soreness or bruise, because I declared the truth as taught in Christian Science. Later that week, while riding a nervous, spirited horse, I was thrown, but in no way injured. After brushing off the dust and recovering my horse, I continued my ride. Soon after this one of my family was struck on the shoulder by a golf ball, the impact being heard a long distance back on the course; but he escaped injury. These are only a few of the many proofs we have had of the protecting power of divine Love as understood and applied in Christian Science, and I realize that this protection has come by being obedient to the rules in the Manual of The Mother Church, especially to the "Daily Prayer" (p. 41), "Alertness to Duty" (p. 42), and to the sixth tenet of Christian Science on page 497 of "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy: "And we solemnly promise to watch, and pray for that Mind to be in us which was also in Christ Jesus; to do unto others as we would have them do unto us; and to be merciful, just, and pure."

We have had many beautiful healings since coming into Christian Science, some with the loving, patient help of practitioners, and others through our own understanding.
