Infinite Progression

In proportion as it is utilized, God's law of infinite progression helps each one just where it finds him; helps him to rise above deficiencies in health and character; to conquer all kinds of limitation; to overcome the habit of criticizing which is apt to characterize self-opinionated youth, or the frailty which the so-called carnal mind would attach to advancing years. To all mortals spiritual law is saying, Arise and be not afraid. Christian Science teaches one how to raise one's standard of thought, and thereby rise above his difficulties. Doubtless it was his perception of God's law of progress which caused the prophet Micah to say, "When I fall, I shall arise."

What, then, would seek to prevent the student of Christian Science from demonstrating this wonderful law of progress in daily experience? Among other things, cramped thinking, limited expectancy of good, belief in subordination to environment; in other words, his own failure perpetually to declare himself governed by, and obedient to, God's law of progress!

Although faithfully studying Christian Science one may quite unconsciously be doing so in an aloof way which seems to leave one still, in belief, outside the pale of Spirit, still comfortless, joyless, and unhealed. For instance, while recognizing the sublimity of the statements in our Leader's writings regarding God and man, one may not simultaneously be endeavoring to see one's self in the light of Truth; one may, instead, be adopting the attitude of a mere onlooker at glorious but distant, unattainable Truth.
