Seventeen years ago I started to put on weight, and about two years ago found myself abnormally overweight. While in good health otherwise, I felt the burden of leading an active life while carrying around two hundred and fifty-five pounds of what Mrs. Eddy calls "manifest mortal mind" (Miscellaneous Writings, p. 47). I was discouraged and unhappy at times; for I had not as yet realized that obesity should not be ignored. Well-meaning friends suggested baths, massage, diets, exercise; and I finally succumbed to the mesmerism of these material methods to the extent of trying some of them. They did not bring any results, possibly because of my lack of faith in them, and also because I could not bring myself to believe that I had two bodies, one material, which needed to be dieted, massaged, and exercised, and the other spiritual and perfect, the embodiment of all right ideas. I soon abandoned the wrong methods and set to work to find out what the Discoverer and Founder of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, had to say about this particular condition. I knew that she had left definite rules for the overcoming of all the erroneous claims of matter; and on the above-mentioned page of "Miscellaneous Writings" I found something to study and apply. Faithfully I took up the work as taught in Christian Science, declaring that I reflected "the glory and permanence of Spirit," and that I could therefore reflect perfection, freedom, and activity

I am so grateful to testify that after I had worked steadily and overcome discouragement, which tried in every way to stop the demonstration, I lost ninety-five pounds and am back to my normal weight. The wonderful part of this demonstration is the fact that I am in excellent health; and there is no weakness or wrinkled skin. I can hardly express my gratitude for this, and especially for the understanding gained in the eighteen months that it took for the manifestation of normalcy to appear. It has proved to me that a slow healing sometimes is a great blessing, for the time is nothing in comparison to what one gains through faithful, steady mental work.

I have also had a healing of valvular heart trouble; and my daughter was healed of blindness through the study and application of Christian Science.
